Update - 5 November 2024
Two weeks left to feed back on Cadent’s HyNet North West Hydrogen Pipeline
- Consultation closes 19th November 2024.
- Over 500 people have attended in-person events held at community venues near to the pipeline’s proposed route.
- Two online events will run on 7th and 12th November, which people can register to attend online.
Local communities across the North West have until 19th November 2024 to provide feedback on Cadent’s plans for the HyNet North West Hydrogen Pipeline.
The pipeline would be the UK’s first 100 per cent hydrogen pipeline network at scale. It is essential to unlocking the benefits and ambitions of the HyNet North West scheme and achieving the UK’s target of reaching net zero.
The pipeline would connect industrial offtakers and power generators to a supply of low carbon hydrogen, helping cut down greenhouse gas emissions. This would support industry particularly in ‘hard to electrify’ sectors and supports the UK’s ambition for 10GW low carbon hydrogen production capacity by 2030.
Cadent has held eight in-person events along the route where people could learn more about the proposals, meet the team and ask questions about the project. Around 500 people have already attended the events and met the team. There are now two online events left being held on 7th and 12th November 2024. People can register to attend online at www.hynethydrogenpipeline.co.uk. The online events will be held as a presentation followed by a question-and-answer session.
In the run up to the close of consultation on 19th November, Cadent welcomes feedback on the pipeline’s updated design, which can be submitted by email, online or by mail. This includes feedback on the Draft Order Limits, within which the pipeline will be routed, temporary construction areas and potential HAGI / BVI sites. Cadent has also published its Draft Environmental Statement, which it welcomes comments on. Feedback already received includes comments on construction methods, temporary access routes and suggestions for adjustments to the route of the pipeline.
Rob Donovan, Project Director, Cadent’s HyNet North West Hydrogen Pipeline said:
“It’s been great to meet and talk to people at our events. We have been receiving lots of feedback and we really encourage people to come along to our online events and provide their thoughts before 19th November.”
“Once the consultation closes, we will carefully consider all the feedback we have received alongside carrying out further technical, engineering and environmental work. We then plan to submit an application for development consent to the Planning Inspectorate in Spring 2025.”
